Tall Ship of Tacoma

On July 3rd, Dad and Mom decided to do something special for Connor's 11th Birthday. Of all the things we listed they decided to go to the Tall Ships Festival. So we all headed over there to watch these ships. Of the thirty ships that were going to pass through we saw only "18", but that was enough, because they were so amazing. Here are most of the ships we did see:

"Lady Washington"

This ship we believe is the "HMCS Oriole"

"Bounty of Krister"

"Cutty Sark"

Now here is some interesting facts on a couple of these ships:

- The 'HMS Bounty' is 180 foot long boat. It was made in 1960 for the movie "Mutiny on the Bounty". It also has been in the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean 2". The ship 'Bounty of Krister' is a replica of the smaller vessel in the Mutiny of the Bounty movie and the ship 'Lady Washington' was in in the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean 1".

- The ship 'CGC Eagle' has 22,245 square feet of sail and more than 20 miles of rigging. During major ship maneuvers, the crew has to coordinate the movement of more then 200 lines.

- The ship 'Red Jacket' was built in 1919 and has suffered many mishaps including a typhoon, two fires, the lose of its keel, and it sinking.

Here is are two ships that we did not see but were just as fun to learn about:

"Nina"

This ship is a replica of the 15th-century ship sailed by Christopher Columbus in 1492. It is almost a perfect example of the ships that were used more than 125 years ago.

The other ship is the ship "Rejoice" (no picture). The story behind this ship is that it was built in 1931 as a wedding present for a man who was getting married to his wife a second time. His wifes name was Joyce, so he named the ship Rejoice.
