Yields:18 Bake at:350 f Cook for:45-50 minutes
Ingredients:
2 cups flour2 cups rolled oats1 tsp cinnamon1/2 tsp nutmeg1 1/2 cups brown sugar1 1/2 cups butter2 quarts peeled, cored and sliced applesDirections:
Preheat oven to 350 degreesIn a large bowl, combine the flour, oatmeal, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar. Cut butter into mixture until crumbly. *I found it really hard to use a pastry cutter on this because of the oatmeal, we just used our fingers and mushed it that way* Take half of the mixture and pat it into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.Cover crumb mixture with apple slices, then sprinkle apple slices with remaining crumb mixture. *We Peel our apples first thing and then just use what we have peeled, without measuring how much, we like it better with more over less*Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes or until apples are tender.
Apple crisp is not even half as good without caramel, here is the home made caramel recipes we use. We got it from the Bradrick's:
Caramel Sauce
2 cups butter
4 cups brown sugarHeat till bubbly: Add:
1 tsp salt4 tsp vanilla2 cups creamStir till dissolved. Remove from heat. This makes about 2 large canning jars full.
